WWF CEE offices, together with project partners, including Habitat for Humanity, the Regional Centre for Energy Policy Research and the Energy Agency Plovdiv, are pleased to invite you to a regional CEE conference on the topic of Forest Biomass Use and Just Energy Transition.

The hybrid conference will be held live on the 6th and 7th of July in Launchee, 2 Maria Luisa Blvd, Sofia and virtually via Zoom.

The event is an opportunity for a deep dive into the current forest biomass policy landscape in the EU and in the CEE region and an opportunity for a dialogue with relevant decision makers from the CEE region on the topic. Among the participants there will be representatives from the Ministries of Environment and the Ministries of Energy, from the Environmental Protection Agencies, the Energy Regulation authorities, the Forestry regulation authorities as well as biomass association, industry representatives and NGOs.

 

Topics covered in the conference interventions and discussions:

Regional analysis for Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary on the use of forest biomass for energy, comparing supply and demand and determining the carbon sequestration potential of forests in the region, developed by the Hungarian REKK Institute, in cooperation with WWF; 

Recommendations to the sustainable criteria on biomass use for energy from the REDII Directive - WWF and Energy Agency Plovdiv; 

Expert studies in three firewood-dependent municipalities in Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary on improving energy efficiency and heating – Energy Agency Plovdiv; 

Analysis of the social aspects related to the use of biomass by households in the three countries - Habitat for Humanity.
